Reconstruction of the palace

• Since 2019, a complete reconstruction of the historical buildings of the palace is underway, in which a completely new public space is being created. The author of the reconstruction is the leading British studio Thomas Heatherwick Studio. The former riding hall is to provide space for social and cultural events. The block facing Panská Street is to have market stalls and restaurants, the block facing Jindřišská Street is to have restaurants and green areas, and the buildings facing Wenceslas Square will be commercial. The rebuilt complex should have an area of 1.7 hectares and, when completed, will connect Wenceslas Square with Na Příkopě, Jindřišská and Panská streets.
• Publicly accessible roof gardens and terraces will offer views of the Prague skyline. The passages will be without doors, everything will be accessible to the disabled and there will be a new direct barrier-free entrance to the Můstek metro station.
• Special gallery spaces are to be created in the palace by 2026 to house the Slavonic Epic. The exhibition will also include space for an exhibition of the family collection of John Mucha, the grandson of the famous painter. The hall where the epic will be located should be 23 metres wide and more than 60 metres long. The canvases should be placed facing each other, with about 15 metres of space between them.

The first stage, the reconstruction of the historic baroque Savarin Palace, which is the most valuable part of the project, was completed at the end of August 2024.
